Caroline Hammond born in 1844 is a young girl with a very troubled life. The girl’s mother is a slave; whereas, her father is a free man. Since she is the daughter of a slave women, Caroline is automatically a slave too. That is just how the rules were at the time. She grew up on a farm miles from South River in Arundel County, next to Davidsonville. Caroline describes how this were fairly decent when her Master , Mr. Davidson was a life. She explains how the fairness and kindness he displays to slaves like herself.
